ligament reconstruction

Tissues can be harvested from patients’ legs (same side or opposite side) and used to fashion a new cruciate ligament.  There are various sources of tissues that can be harvested and the pros and cons of each will be explained.  In some situations, patients have had multiple ligament injuries all requiring revision or redo of the previous operation.  In this situation using donated tissue from regulated tissue banks can be very helpful.  Synthetic type ligaments are available but in general have a limited role.  Having several options is extremely helpful in trying to tailor the best treatment to the patient.
